How to split a large UPI payment into smaller QR codes

Updated 23 September 2026 · FinanceX guides

SplitQR turns one large amount into several UPI QR codes that each stay under ₹2,000. You scan or type the payee's UPI ID, enter the total, and SplitQR shows the QR codes to pay one after another. It works with any UPI app and runs entirely in your browser.

Why split a UPI payment at all?

NPCI allows an interchange fee of up to 1.1% on merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000 made from prepaid wallets (PPIs). Keeping each payment at ₹2,000 or less stays under that threshold. Splitting also helps when a payer's app or bank sets a lower limit on a single payment.

How do I split a payment with SplitQR?

  1. Open SplitQR on your phone.
  2. Scan the payee's UPI QR code with your camera, upload a photo of it, or type their UPI ID.
  3. Enter the total amount. By default each QR code is capped at ₹1,999.
  4. SplitQR shows the QR codes. Scan and pay each one from any UPI app.
  5. Tap Mark paid on each code to keep track until the total is covered.

Does SplitQR see my UPI ID or payment?

No. Reading the QR code and generating the new ones both happen on your device. Your UPI ID and the amount are never sent to our servers, and nothing is stored.

Does it work with every UPI app?

Yes. SplitQR creates standard UPI payment QR codes, the same format as any shop's QR, so they work with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and your bank's app.

Frequently asked questions

Why keep each UPI payment under ₹2,000?
Some payments from prepaid wallets (PPIs) above ₹2,000 can attract an interchange fee. Splitting the total into several smaller QR codes avoids it while collecting the full amount.
Is SplitQR safe?
Yes. The QR codes are made in your browser. Your UPI ID and the amount never reach our servers.
Can I scan the shop's QR code instead of typing the UPI ID?
Yes. Scan it with your camera or upload a photo of it. SplitQR reads the UPI ID and name from the code.
