Check your AIS before you file
The income tax department compares your return with your Annual Information Statement. Enter the totals from your AIS next to your own figures and we'll flag every difference and tell you what to do about it.
Where to find the figures
- Log in to incometax.gov.in and open Annual Information Statement (AIS) from the Services menu.
- Choose the financial year and open the Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS). It shows a total for each category.
- Copy each total into the "AIS" column below, and your own figure (from Form 16, bank statements, your broker) next to it.
Not sure which form to use? Which ITR form should I file? Sold mutual funds? Work out your capital gains.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Annual Information Statement (AIS)?
- A statement on the income tax portal of everything reported about you for a year: salary, interest, dividends, share and mutual fund sales, rent, TDS and more. The Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) shows the totals for each category.
- How do I download my AIS?
- Log in to incometax.gov.in and open Annual Information Statement (AIS) from the Services menu. You can view it online or download it as a PDF; the password is your PAN in lower case followed by your date of birth (DDMMYYYY).
- What if my AIS shows income that isn't mine?
- Open the entry in AIS and submit feedback, such as 'Information is duplicate' or 'Information belongs to another person'. Then file your return with the correct figures and keep proof.
- What happens if my return doesn't match AIS?
- The department compares your return with AIS. Income in AIS that's missing from your return can be added when the return is processed, or lead to a notice asking you to explain the difference.
